Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the “Upper Miss” Refuge
Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the refuge and the arrival of spring by joining us on Saturday May 18,
2024 for live bird banding and bird identification. Have you ever wondered how researchers band the little
legs on song birds? Now is your chance to learn! As part of the 100th Anniversary Interpretive Series on the
refuge, there will be live bird banding demonstrations with a variety of experts on-site to help identify birds
and explain how and why we band birds.
Birding is an interactive and immersive way to experience wildlife on the Refuge. The Upper Mississippi
River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is situated in world-class birding territory along the Mississippi
Flyway, making it one of the most popular activities for locals and destination birders alike. Bring your
binoculars, favorite field guide, and sense of curiosity.
